Former U.S. President and current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is set to speak at one of the largest cryptocurrency events this month. This is quite a turnaround for Trump, who once vocally criticized Bitcoin but has recently become a significant supporter of the digital currency sector.
Trump to Address Bitcoin Conference
The official Bitcoin Conference X account announced via tweet that Trump will be a keynote speaker at their event, taking place from July 25 to 27 in Nashville, Tennessee. This announcement is a significant win for the crypto community, considering Trump’s recent positive shift towards digital assets.
Trump’s prospects in the upcoming U.S. presidential election have improved since he changed his stance on Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Earlier this year, he acknowledged the need for regulation around digital assets and expressed a willingness to coexist with Bitcoin. Moreover, Trump has pledged to prevent the creation of a central bank digital currency (CBDC) in the U.S., viewing it as a threat to freedom. He has also promised to protect Bitcoin from critics like Senator Elizabeth Warren and regulatory overreach.
Trump’s Crypto Advocacy
Trump’s newfound support for digital assets is also reflected in his acceptance of crypto donations. In May, his campaign opened the door for contributions in various cryptocurrencies, utilizing the commerce product of Coinbase, the largest American crypto exchange.
Prominent figures in the crypto world have rallied behind Trump due to his favorable stance on cryptocurrencies. Notable supporters include the Winklevoss twins, co-founders of the Gemini exchange, and Jesse Powell, co-founder and chairman of Kraken. Both parties have donated $1 million worth of Bitcoin and Ether to support Trump’s campaign.
Given the Biden administration’s perceived hostility towards crypto, many in the industry hope for clear regulations and a supportive environment should Trump win the presidency. Recently, Trump expressed his intent to create favorable conditions for mining all remaining Bitcoin in the U.S., believing it would enhance the country’s energy dominance.
Additional Speakers
Trump will not be the only presidential candidate speaking at the Bitcoin Conference. Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is also set to take the stage, adding to the event’s significance.
